Road safety improvements underway in Giarre and Lanusei
In Giarre, local authorities have begun a project to renew and integrate both horizontal and vertical road signage. Led by mobility assessor Leo Patanè, the initiative focuses on pedestrian crossings and stop signs, prioritizing main arteries and areas near schools to enhance safety for families and children. The goal is to cover at least 70% of the municipal territory, addressing areas where signage had become faded or non-existent.
In Lanusei, two new speed bumps have been installed on Viale Europa in the Gennaura district. This location serves as a major hub for heavy traffic, ambulances, and buses. While the administration has moved forward with the installation, the move has faced criticism from opposition leaders and transport unions. Critics argue that the placement of these speed deterrents on primary access routes to health facilities lacks a cohesive traffic management plan and may negatively impact vehicle and driver efficiency.
