Road safety leaders call for shared responsibility and fatigue management

During the X National Road Safety Congress of the Asociación Nacional de Transporte Privado (ANTP), industry leaders emphasized the need for shared responsibility to improve road safety and reduce accidents.

Rodolfo Giacoman, a specialist from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), highlighted that driver fatigue is a silent risk factor responsible for between 30% and 40% of fatal crashes. He recommended that transport companies implement multi-layered safety cultures, including reasonable driving schedules, sleep disorder screening, and the use of fatigue-detection technology. Giacoman also advised operators to focus on five wellness pillars: sleep hygiene, optimal nutrition, regular exercise, mental health, and positive personal relationships.

Rogelio Arzate, president of the Asociación Nacional de Productores de Autobuses, Camiones y Tractocamiones (ANPACT), stated that road safety requires a coordinated effort between industry, authorities, and users. He argued that technological innovations and driver assistance systems must be paired with vehicle fleet renewal and continuous training to create a modern, competitive, and safe industry.
