Regional updates on traffic laws and road safety enforcement
Various regional updates highlight changes in traffic laws, safety technology, and enforcement actions across Latin America.
In Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, the Legislature passed a law modifying the Traffic Code to clarify right-of-way priorities. The reform establishes that vehicles on higher-hierarchy roads, such as avenues, highways, or routes, have priority over those entering from lower-hierarchy streets, regardless of whether the approaching vehicle is on the right. This aims to resolve legal ambiguities and align provincial rules with those in the City of Buenos Aires.
In Chile, Carabineros conducted over 4,300 controls under the ‘Plan Ruta Segura’ during a long weekend, resulting in 11 arrests for negligent driving and over 480 traffic violations.
In Mexico, the PRI in the Senate proposed strengthening road safety by mandating stricter certification and enforcement of motorcycle helmets to ensure technical compliance and passenger protection.
Other reports include educational initiatives like IAPSER Seguros’ ‘Conducí tu Curso’ in Paraná, Argentina, and various enforcement actions involving illegal street racing, driving under the influence, and improper use of shoulders on major highways.
