Road signage standards differ between the UK and Brazil
Road signage serves as a critical guide for vehicle circulation, utilizing various elements such as traffic signs, traffic lights, and pavement markings to communicate rules, restrictions, and warnings. These visual references help drivers navigate changing conditions, including speed limits, parking regulations, and pedestrian crossings.
In the United Kingdom, a specific blue square sign featuring a T-shape has caused confusion among drivers. While some mistake it for a junction or a prohibition sign, driving instructor Annie Winterburn clarified that the symbol indicates a road that does not continue, requiring drivers to perform a maneuver to return.
In Brazil, a similar purpose is served by the A-45 sign, known as ‘Rua sem saída’ (Dead End). Unlike the British version, the Brazilian standard established by the National Traffic Council (Contran) uses a yellow diamond-shaped warning sign with black elements to alert drivers of a road without continuity.
