Quito's Panamericana Norte to Close for Ten-Day Asphalt Rehabilitation

Starting Sunday 21 June 2026, a one‑kilometre stretch of Quito’s Panamericana Norte between the Carcelén interchange and the N76 street will be closed for a ten‑day rehabilitation project. The works involve milling the existing surface, stabilising the base and laying a new high‑traffic asphalt layer to extend the road’s service life.

During the closure, three main lanes will be reduced, but a dynamic contraflow system will be employed: when traffic demand is higher north‑to‑south, two lanes will be opened for that direction, and the opposite configuration will be used when demand shifts. The N76 street will be limited to light local traffic, and left‑turn movements onto the Panamericana Norte will be prohibited. The municipality expects the works to improve traffic flow and safety once completed, restoring full access to the corridor and reducing travel times for commuters in the city’s northern districts.
