Zagreb construction sites shut after safety inspection

State building inspectors ordered the closure of three Zagreb construction sites – the Savska‑Vukovarska intersection, a stretch of Zvonimirova street and a nearby Vukovar‑city road – citing violations of the construction and occupational‑safety laws. The inspectors demanded the immediate erection of protective fencing and a public information board before work could resume.

The halted projects include a €3.8 million overhaul of the main water‑supply pipe and a €1.2 million renewal of a tramway switch at the Savska‑Vukovarska junction, both scheduled to finish by the end of August. The city says contractors are installing the required barriers and expect the sites to reopen in the coming days, though further document checks may delay a full restart.

Traffic on the busy Savska‑Vukovarska corridor has been rerouted, leading to long vehicle queues, two minor incidents with cars entering excavated tram tracks, and pedestrian complaints about navigating around machinery. Officials stress the measures are temporary and intended to safeguard road users while the infrastructure upgrades continue.
