Roads Cut Off in Doda District, Jammu & Kashmir After Cloudbursts Trigger Floods

Heavy cloudbursts over Doda district in Jammu & Kashmir on 2 July caused sudden flash floods that damaged multiple roads, isolating several villages from the rest of the district. The most affected route was the Thathri‑Kilhotran road, where debris collapsed the roadway and halted traffic for hours, delaying ambulances and emergency services.

Local authorities have deployed restoration teams to clear debris and reopen blocked routes while maintaining a high‑alert status due to rising water levels in the Chenab River. In the Bhatyas area, floodwater entered a government grain storage depot, spoiling hundreds of quintals of stored grain. Residents allege delayed road‑clearing efforts and inadequate drainage measures, raising concerns about the region’s vulnerability to future heavy rains.
