Morelia's Ramal Independencia Project to Benefit 190,000 Residents

The Ramal Independencia, a new 300‑metre roadway in the southern part of Morelia, Michoacán, is being built by the Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Obras Públicas (SCOP). The project, costing 25.6 million pesos, includes a safe, illuminated pedestrian corridor and accessible sidewalks, as well as a central lane for trucks and tractor‑trucks.

State officials say the work will cut local traffic by up to 40 percent and provide a second route via the Independencia railway overpass, offering a key alternative for the heavily used peripheral highway. More than 190 000 inhabitants, including residents of El Vergel and Tenencia Morelos, will directly benefit. Construction involves over 16 machines and 30 workers, with excavation, side‑filling, hydraulic base placement and concrete slab casting now underway.
