Rob Conway discusses impact of televised Vince McMahon firing

Former WWE three-time World Tag Team Champion Rob Conway has revealed that a televised firing by Vince McMahon negatively impacted his professional standing. During an appearance on the ‘Insight’ program with Chris Van Vliet, Conway explained that his January 1, 2007, loss to Jeff Hardy on Raw was part of a scripted angle designed to facilitate a storyline between McMahon and Donald Trump.

Although the firing was presented as a storyline, Conway was not officially released from his contract until May 2007. He stated that he was intended to reunite with tag team partner Sylvain Grenier on SmackDown following WrestleMania, and had even begun preparing new wrestling gear. However, the scheduled return never materialized, and he remained off television for several months. Conway noted that this prolonged absence from the screen hurt his ‘stock’ and professional value within the industry.
