Rob Gronkowski says Patriots did not consult him on Romeo Doubs wearing No. 87

Rob Gronkowski has revealed that the New England Patriots did not consult him before assigning his former jersey number, 87, to wide receiver Romeo Doubs. Speaking on the ‘Up & Adams’ show, the Hall of Fame tight end stated, “I wasn’t consulted at all,” though he added that he is “cool with it.”

Gronkowski, who played nine seasons in New England and won three Super Bowls, suggested that only Tom Brady’s number 12 should be retired by the franchise, noting that players should generally be able to use other numbers unless they have played for two decades.

Media personality Kay Adams criticized the decision, calling the lack of consultation “absurd” and “insane,” arguing that no one should wear number 87 in New England given Gronkowski’s legacy.
