Dutch police face investigations over data misuse and falsified fines

Serious allegations of misconduct and data misuse have emerged within the Dutch police force. In Limburg, two employees from the Venlo-Beesel and Brunssum-Landgraaf teams have been suspended following investigations by the Public Prosecution Service. They are suspected of unauthorized access to sensitive citizen data and sharing private information with individuals outside the police force.

In a separate but related instance of systemic abuse, an officer from the East Netherlands unit was dismissed after it was discovered they had spent years fabricating approximately one hundred traffic fines. The officer allegedly used license plate data from police systems to issue non-existent citations. Additionally, this individual performed thousands of unauthorized searches in secure databases to access private citizen information for personal use, sharing details with friends and family.
