Rob Lowe confirms ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ sequel is in development

Actor Rob Lowe has confirmed that a sequel to the 1985 film ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ is currently in development. Speaking on ‘Watch What Happens Live,’ Lowe stated that the project is ‘definitely in the works’ and noted that the original cast members are eager to participate. He indicated that the actors are expected to receive a draft of the script during the first week of October.

Lowe described the project as being in its ‘very, very, very, very, very early stages’ despite having held discussions with the studio for approximately four months. This follows previous comments from co-star Demi Moore, who noted that Sony, the studio behind the original film, has been driving the discussions but was previously seeking the right partner for the screenplay.

While a television series adaptation was once proposed by NBC in 2019, that project did not move forward. The original 1985 film featured an ensemble cast including Lowe, Moore, Emilio Estevez, and Andrew McCarthy.
