Rob Lowe discusses reaction to Will Smith and Chris Rock Oscars incident

Actor Rob Lowe recently discussed the 2022 Academy Awards incident involving Will Smith and Chris Rock during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live. Lowe stated that he felt a sense of relief when the slap occurred, as he believed it would replace his own 1989 Oscars performance as the most embarrassing moment in the ceremony’s history.

Lowe noted that despite the severity of the Smith-Rock altercation, he is still frequently mocked for his 1989 musical number involving Snow White.

The original incident occurred during the 94th Academy Awards when Will Smith walked onto the stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock following a joke directed at Jada Pinkett Smith regarding her appearance. Smith later apologized and received a 10-year ban from Academy events.
