Rob Lowe identifies Tom Cruise as rival for iconic film roles

Actor Rob Lowe has identified Tom Cruise as the star who frequently secured major film roles that Lowe had also considered during the 1980s and 1990s. Lowe described Cruise as a “dastardly” nemesis in relation to several high-profile projects.

Lowe noted that Cruise ultimately took the lead in films such as “Jerry Maguire” and “Top Gun” after Lowe had read the scripts. Additionally, Lowe addressed rumors regarding the lead role in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” clarifying that he was never actually under consideration for the part that went to Matthew Broderick.

Lowe also reflected on his missed opportunities with director John Hughes. While he expressed regret over not being cast in Hughes' iconic films like “The Breakfast Club” or “Sixteen Candles,” he theorized that his existing level of fame may have prevented Hughes from casting him, as the director often preferred working with unknown performers.
