Rob Sand heckled by activists at Iowa State Fair

Iowa gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand was heckled by activists at the Iowa State Fair on August 13, 2026. The confrontation involved members of Turning Point Action, a political advocacy group, who questioned the sitting State Auditor regarding his record.

Reports indicate that Sand spent approximately 15 minutes in a bathroom stall to avoid the confrontation before being escorted from the fairgrounds by state police. While activists characterized the event as voters demanding accountability, critics and social media commenters described the encounter as harassment.

The incident occurs during a competitive race for an open seat following Republican Governor Kim Reynolds' decision not to seek reelection. Sand, the only Democrat currently holding statewide office in Iowa, faces Republican businessman Zach Lahn in the upcoming election.
