Rob Sand raises $16.3 million for Iowa gubernatorial campaign

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand has announced raising $16.3 million during the fundraising period from July 15 to October 14, 2026. This total nearly doubles the previous fundraising record for the same period in an Iowa gubernatorial election.

The campaign reported receiving over 88,000 contributions, with an average donation of $106.35. Approximately 95% of these contributions were $100 or less, and nearly two-thirds of the donors are Iowa residents. Support has been reported across all 99 Iowa counties, including more than 3,300 Republican and 8,000 independent voters.

Sand, a 44-year-old candidate, is running on a platform titled ‘Truer Better,’ which focuses on lowering costs, strengthening public schools, and addressing concerns across party lines. His campaign strategy emphasizes bipartisanship and engaging with voters outside the traditional Democratic base in a state where a Democrat has not won the governorship since 2006.
