Robert Andrich responds to Bayer Leverkusen captaincy change
Robert Andrich has addressed his removal as captain of Bayer Leverkusen, stating that he does not view the change as negatively as it has been portrayed. Following his 200th competitive match for the club during a 4-0 victory against Union Berlin, the 31-year-old midfielder noted that new coach Carles Martínez selected Edmond Tapsoba as the new captain.
Andrich expressed understanding of the decision, noting that a captain should ideally be on the pitch most of the time. However, he emphasized that he does not intend to settle for a secondary role due to his sporting ambitions, stating, “I am still angry when I do not play.” Despite describing his recent pre-season as the “most restless ever” and acknowledging that communication with Martínez could improve, Andrich remains committed to the club.
