Robert Beckman pleads guilty to four-year stalking of Joe Sugg
Robert Beckman, a 31-year-old man from Michigan, has pleaded guilty to stalking YouTuber Joe Sugg during a four-year campaign. Appearing at Brighton Crown Court, Beckman admitted to pursuing a course of conduct that caused Sugg “serious alarm or distress” and had a “substantial adverse effect” on his daily life.
The stalking campaign, which lasted from August 2022 until shortly before the court hearing, involved repeated contact through emails, letters, and social media comments. The court heard that Beckman traveled from the United States to the United Kingdom to continue the harassment, sending messages from various locations including Gatwick Airport.
Beckman also pleaded guilty to failing to provide investigators with a passcode for an Apple iPhone 13. He faces sentencing next month, with the possibility of a prison sentence.
