Robert Corbin, former Guyanese Deputy Prime Minister, dies at 78
Former Guyanese political leader Robert Herman Orlando Corbin has died at the age of 78. A veteran parliamentarian and lawyer, Corbin held several high-ranking positions, including Leader of the Opposition from 2002 to 2012 and Deputy Prime Minister from 1985 to 1992.
Political organizations including the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) described his passing as an “irreplaceable loss.” They credited him as a shrewd politician and a key architect of coalition politics, noting his role in forming the APNU+AFC alliance that won the 2015 elections.
The Working People’s Alliance (WPA) also honored his legacy, stating that Corbin displayed “tremendous political courage” by setting aside historical differences with the WPA to pursue national unity and power-sharing. President Irfaan Ali extended his condolences, describing Corbin as a political stalwart who served the nation with distinction.
