Robert De Niro becomes emotional during podcast interview with Amy Poehler

During an appearance on the ‘Good Hang’ podcast, actor Robert De Niro became visibly emotional after comedian Amy Poehler thanked him for his political activism. Poehler praised De Niro for using his status and reputation to speak out against political figures, specifically mentioning his criticisms of Donald Trump. She compared his advocacy to an adult stepping in to correct a terrible speech at a wedding, noting that his actions make marginalized groups, such as women and people of color, feel safer.

De Niro expressed that it is necessary to fight for what is right, stating, ‘if you don't fight, you won't achieve anything.’

The interview also touched on De Niro’s unexpected popularity among Gen Z audiences on social media. Poehler explained the concept of ‘thirst traps’ to the actor, noting that many young fans have been rediscovering and celebrating clips from his early career films, such as ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘Raging Bull’.
