Robert Downey Jr. to reprise Iron Man role for Disney attraction

Robert Downey Jr. will return to portray Tony Stark as Iron Man for a new Disney project, seven years after the character's departure in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Announced during Disney's D23 event, the actor has recorded new, unreleased footage for ‘Avengers: Infinity Defense’, an upcoming attraction at the Avengers Campus expansion in Disney California Adventure, which is scheduled to open in 2028.

The experience will feature Downey Jr. addressing visitors to join a new mission, placing the audience within a battle alongside superheroes against the villain Thanos. Other returning actors for the project include Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson.

This return comes as Downey Jr. prepares to take on a different role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting as the villain Doctor Doom in a future phase of the franchise.
