Robert Eggers releases new trailer for medieval horror film Werwulf

Director Robert Eggers has released a second trailer for his upcoming medieval horror film, ‘Werwulf’. The film, distributed by Focus Features, is set in 13th-century England and follows a farmer, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who is cursed to transform into a werewolf under the full moon. The cast includes Lily-Rose Depp as his wife and Willem Dafoe as a hunter tasked with eliminating the creatures in the region.

Eggers, known for ‘The Witch’ and ‘Nosferatu’, has emphasized a focus on primal folklore rather than modern genre clichés. He has intentionally kept the creature’s full appearance a mystery to maintain tension, comparing his approach to the original ‘Alien’. The film’s script was co-written with Icelandic novelist Sjón.

The marketing campaign includes an alternate reality game titled ‘Devoureth All Mankynde’, which is timed to coincide with the full moons from September through November. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 25, 2026, in the United States.
