Robert Eggers to direct werewolf thriller Werwulf

Director Robert Eggers is preparing his next cinematic project, a supernatural thriller titled Werwulf (also referred to as Licántropo). Set in 14th-century England, the film explores the myth of a werewolf terrorizing a village, with the possibility that the creature is a man under a curse.

To ensure historical authenticity, Eggers has collaborated with two Oxford University professors to oversee the script. The production features dialogue written in Middle English, a linguistic choice intended to enhance characterization and period accuracy. The academic advisors provided line-by-line corrections to ensure vocabulary aligned with the social classes of the era.

The film features a cast including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe, and Lily-Rose Depp. Eggers co-wrote the screenplay with Sjón. The movie is scheduled for release in early January 2027.
