Robert Eggers' Werwulf set for Christmas release

Director Robert Eggers and Focus Features are collaborating on Werwulf, a 14th-century horror film described as a tale of devotion and damnation. The film, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe, and Lily-Rose Depp, is scheduled for a Christmas Day release in 2026.

Set in 1300s England, the production emphasizes historical authenticity, featuring characters who speak in Middle English. To achieve a specific aesthetic, Eggers and cinematographer Jarin Blaschke utilized an orthochromatic look designed to create a hellish, flame-lit glow.

A promotional pop-up event for the film is scheduled for Sunday, October 25, in Los Angeles, featuring limited-edition merchandise in collaboration with The Cinegogue, original costumes, and research materials.
