Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a former prominent vaccine skeptic, used a CNN interview with anchor Dana Bash to urge parents to vaccinate their children. He said the measles vaccine is roughly 97 % effective and that parents should ensure their children receive it. Kennedy denied any personal responsibility for the surge, blaming low‑vaccination communities and broader global trends.

The outbreak spans 45 US jurisdictions with 37 new clusters reported in 2026, affecting multiple states and raising concerns among public‑health experts about the need for higher vaccination coverage.
