Robert Farken wins gold in road mile at World Championships

German middle-distance runner Robert Farken won the gold medal in the road mile at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen on September 19, 2026. Farken completed the race with a time of 3:51.80, securing victory through a decisive sprint in the final 100 meters.

Farken defeated American runner Yared Nuguse, a former indoor world record holder, who took the silver medal finishing 0.53 seconds behind. Luxembourg's Ruben Querinjean earned the bronze medal. This victory marks Farken's first international gold medal and follows a challenging season that included an injury and surgery in March.

This event was only Farken's second time competing in the road mile distance. The championships are a relatively new format, having evolved from the previous half-marathon world championships.
