Slovakia: Political leaders manage EU summit, UEFA meeting, and budget reforms
Slovak political leaders are engaged in several high-level activities. President Peter Pellegrini is scheduled to attend the Arraiolos Group summit in Slovenia, hosted by President Nataša Pirc Musar. The summit will focus on the future of the European Union, addressing themes of peace, security, prosperity, and the role of multilateralism and the UN.
In domestic politics, Prime Minister Robert Fico met with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin and Slovak Football Association President Ján Kováčik to discuss football infrastructure and cooperation. Additionally, the Slovak government has introduced changes to budget provisional rules to facilitate the approval of the state budget and manage internal political negotiations.
Regarding the national budget, Minister Erik Tomáš stated that the government would submit a balanced budget if required by the Constitutional Court, though he noted that a deficit budget is practically necessary to maintain social benefits. Opposition figures, including Viliam Karas, have criticized the proposed budget, labeling it a plan of stagnation and lack of vision.
