Robert Fico proposes reviving Tichý potok reservoir project

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has announced the government's intention to revisit the ‘Tichý potok’ project, a large-scale plan to construct a major water reservoir in eastern Slovakia. Speaking in Nitra following a cabinet meeting, Fico emphasized that the project is necessary to secure drinking water supplies for the eastern region, noting that the country currently relies heavily on the Starina reservoir.

Fico stated that the project is already prepared in terms of documentation. He indicated that he would propose the matter to the new national commission for water and drought as one of its first priorities. The commission will re-evaluate the current state of preparation and potential financing options.

The Prime Minister defended the need for large-scale infrastructure, arguing that the government must have the courage to pursue such solutions despite opposition from environmental activists or individual interests.
