Robert Fico returns to Handlová following assassination attempt
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has returned to Handlová, the site of the recent assassination attempt against him, nearly four months after the incident. During his visit, Fico expressed that while he suffers from trauma, his primary distress stems from the opposition and certain media outlets rather than the attack itself.
In addition to this visit, Fico is embarking on an intensive schedule of regional government meetings. This includes discussions at the Jaslovské Bohunice nuclear power plant regarding reactor resilience against extreme drought, a cabinet meeting in Kriváň, and a visit to Hliník nad Hronom to observe aluminum production at SLOVALCO. The week of activities will conclude with participation in the Slovak National Uprising commemorations in Banská Bystrica.
Addressing economic matters, Fico noted that wage growth in Slovakia has outpaced inflation, though he admitted overall economic growth is lagging behind expectations. He also expressed concerns regarding the potential sabotage of a new nuclear block project and criticized the security situation within the European Union.
