Robert Habeck denies new party rumors and addresses Gaza war crimes

Former German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck has addressed several political rumors and controversial topics during an interview on the ARD talk show ‘Caren Miosga’.

Habeck explicitly denied rumors that he is planning to form a new centrist political party alongside former FDP politician Volker Wissing, calling such speculation ‘nonsense’. He also stated that he has no current plans, strategy, or desire to return to active politics, noting that he remains loyal to the Green Party.

Regarding the conflict in Gaza, Habeck stated there is ‘much evidence’ that war crimes have been committed by Israel. He argued that while Germany has a fundamental obligation toward Israel and must combat antisemitism, this should not lead to a ‘gag order’ that prevents legitimate criticism of the Netanyahu government. He characterized Israel as a defensive and combative state, noting that its actions in Gaza have, in many places, gone too far.

Habeck also commented on the rise of political extremism in Germany, suggesting that the growth of the AfD is a significant concern and that the political center in many Western democracies is shrinking due to global economic pressures.
