Robert Jenrick pledges to resign as Chancellor if tax promises are not met

During a Reform UK party conference, Jenrick pledged that if his party is elected to government, he would increase the tax-free Personal Allowance to £15,000 in his first Budget. He claimed this move would remove 2.9 million people from income tax and prevent the State Pension from being taxed. He stated, “If I do not deliver it, I should not remain chancellor. Please consider this my letter of resignation.”

The announcement has faced mockery on social media, with critics noting the performative nature of resigning from a role he does not occupy. This development follows recent scrutiny of Reform UK regarding allegations of illegal political donations.
