Vancouver teacher receives lifetime ban after sexual assault conviction

Robert Kyle Ledingham, a former band teacher for the Vancouver school district, has received a lifetime ban from the teaching profession. The decision was issued by the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation following a sexual assault conviction.

The commissioner determined that Ledingham violated his position of power and trust, causing harm to a student’s physical and emotional well-being. The incident involved a student who held a volunteer position at Ledingham’s school between April and June 2019, though the student did not attend that specific school.

Ledingham was initially charged in provincial court with two counts of sexual exploitation and one count of sexual assault. Following legal proceedings in the Supreme Court of B.C., he pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault.
