Robert Lewandowski ends Barcelona stint with farewell goal

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski played his final match for FC Barcelona on 23 May 2026 against Valencia at the Mestalla, scoring the only goal for the Catalan side in a 1‑3 defeat. After the final whistle, both Barcelona supporters and opposing fans applauded his departure.

Lewandowski marked the occasion with an emotional Instagram post that quickly gathered over 700,000 likes and comments from teammates and rival players, including Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo. He thanked fans, his family and the club, confirming his contract will not be renewed. Media outlets suggest his next destination could be a Saudi Arabian club or a move to Major League Soccer in the United States.

Barcelona now faces a pressing replacement issue. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported that potential successors such as João Pedro and Julian Álvarez are linked to the club, but negotiations are expected to be complex and costly, leaving the Blaugrana’s front office under pressure to find a new leading striker.
