Chicago Fire secures consecutive MLS playoffs berths
Chicago Fire has qualified for the Major League Soccer playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2009. Despite a recent 0-1 loss to the New England Revolution, the team secured its postseason spot due to results in other matches, maintaining its position in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
Robert Lewandowski, who joined the club in July following his departure from FC Barcelona, has faced a recent scoring drought, going five matches without a goal. Chicago Fire head coach and director of football Gregg Berhalter has defended the striker, noting that while Lewandowski's individual statistics have fluctuated, his presence has significantly improved team communication and leadership.
This qualification marks the fifteenth time in club history that the Men in Red will compete in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. It also represents the second time in seven seasons that a team managed by Berhalter has reached the postseason.
