Robert Lewandowski mocks ‘soccer’ term at Chicago Fire introduction

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, after leaving Barcelona, signed with Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire. During his introductory press conference in Chicago, he questioned the American usage of the word “soccer,” saying, “Non capisco perché lo chiamate ‘soccer’ e non ‘football’.”

Lewandowski’s comment highlighted the linguistic difference between the sport’s name in the United States and the rest of the world, drawing laughter from the attending journalists as he adjusted to his new club and the MLS environment.
