Chicago Fire beats Necaxa 2-0 in Leagues Cup group match

Chicago Fire opened its Leagues Cup campaign with a 2‑0 victory over Mexico's Club Necaxa at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. The win was secured by goals from Jonathan Dean in the 31st minute and left‑back Andrew Gutman in the 70th minute.

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski started the match, played 64 minutes and was replaced by Robin Lod. He did not score, despite several chances, and his performance was described as solid but unremarkable. The tournament pits MLS clubs against Mexican sides, and Chicago Fire’s next group‑stage fixtures are against Santos Laguna and Cruz Azul.

The match was attended by a sizable crowd of Chicago supporters, many displaying Polish flags in recognition of Lewandowski’s presence. The result gave Chicago Fire three points and a positive start to the competition.
