Robert Lewandowski signs with Chicago Fire
Polish striker Robert Lewandowski completed a move to Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire, signing a two‑year contract as a Designated Player. The deal was finalised after 18 months of negotiations, which club officials credit to head coach Gregg Berhalter and sporting director Gregg Broughton.
Chicago Fire CEO Paweł Szynalik said Lewandowski’s arrival follows owner Joe Mansueto’s recent $65 million relocation of the team to Soldier Field and a $750 million private‑funded stadium project slated for the next few years. The club expects a surge in attendance and hopes the star forward will help push the team toward an MLS Cup title.
Mundo Deportivo reported Lewandowski could debut within weeks, with the first match slated against Vancouver Whitecaps. The transfer marks the highest‑profile signing in Chicago Fire’s history and underscores the growing appeal of MLS for European stars.
