Robert Lewandowski joins Chicago Fire as wife Anna Lewandowski shares emotional move to the US

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski signed a two‑year contract with Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire, becoming a designated player with a reported salary of about $20 million per season and taking the number 9 shirt. The transfer ends his four‑year spell at FC Barcelona and will keep him in the United States until at least 2028.

Lewandowski’s wife, fitness entrepreneur Anna Lewandowski, posted an Instagram message expressing deep fear and stress about relocating the family from Barcelona to Chicago. She wrote that the move is “a huge change” and voiced concerns for their daughters, a new school and the emotional toll of starting over.

The post sparked a massive online reaction. Supportive comments poured in from fellow athletes and media personalities, while other users criticised or mocked the expression of anxiety, prompting discussions about sexism and the pressures on public figures. Psychologist Patrycja Bujarska‑Jaglarz highlighted the paradox of demanding authenticity yet condemning emotional displays.

Chicago Fire players and coach Gregg Berhalter welcomed the new signing, calling him a leader and a boost for the club’s ambitions. Teammate Philip Zinckernagel said he hopes to learn from Lewandowski and that the squad is excited to have a world‑class striker.

Following the announcement, demand for Lewandowski merchandise and tickets surged, with jersey prices reaching nearly $200 and some match tickets tripling in cost. Polish fans also face viewing challenges, as MLS games are broadcast on separate subscription platforms and often at night in Europe.
