Authorities in Douglas County have identified 69-year-old Robert M. Lister of Orondo as the victim found in a vehicle destroyed by the Chelan Hills Fire. Lister's remains were discovered on July 5 in a vehicle that had slid into a roadside ditch near US 97, south of Chelan Falls.

Investigators believe Lister was attempting to evacuate the area when the incident occurred. His family had previously notified the Sheriff's Office that he had not been heard from since the fire began on July 4. Lister is the only known fatality of the blaze.

The Chelan Hills Fire burned approximately 9,862 to 10,000 acres in McNeil Canyon and other parts of northwestern Douglas County. The fire destroyed at least 19 homes and over 100 outbuildings, and injured several firefighters. A criminal investigation is underway regarding the cause of the fire, which is believed to be human-caused.
