Robert Makłowicz criticizes disco polo aesthetics

Culinary expert Robert Makłowicz has shared his views on the disco polo genre during an appearance on Kuba Wojewódzki’s podcast. While noting that 63 percent of Poles express a positive attitude toward the genre, Makłowicz stated he is not an enthusiast.

He clarified that his critique is not aimed at the listeners who seek simple, catchy music, but rather at the quality of the productions. He specifically criticized the lyrical content and the visual presentation in music videos, describing certain imagery as inappropriate and the lyrics as “terrible.”

To illustrate his point, Makłowicz compared modern disco polo to the italo disco movement of the 1980s. He cited producers like Giorgio Moroder and artists such as Al Bano and Romina Power as examples of music that could be catchy and danceable while maintaining aesthetic class and sophisticated arrangements.
