Robert Pattinson film ‘Primetime’ sparks controversy with Chris Hansen

The upcoming film ‘Primetime’, directed by Lance Oppenheim and produced by A24 and Ari Aster, is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The thriller stars Robert Pattinson as journalist Chris Hansen, reconstructing the era of the controversial American television show ‘To Catch a Predator’, which aired between 2004 and 2007.

Real-life journalist Chris Hansen reportedly walked away from a private early screening at the A24 offices. Hansen expressed concerns regarding the film’s commercial motives and described the trailer as overly dramatic. The conflict arose when Hansen refused to sign a waiver relinquishing his rights to the film’s content, calling the document an ‘extremely restrictive statement’ that he had never encountered before.

The film explores the intersection of investigative journalism and entertainment, focusing on the sting operations used to catch individuals attempting to contact minors online.
