Robert Pattinson reveals inspirations for The Batman 2

Robert Pattinson has shared insights regarding the upcoming sequel, The Batman 2, noting that the script is “extraordinary” and “very, very different” from the first installment. The actor indicated that the production team is “taking some big swings” to avoid a formulaic approach, suggesting a bold new direction for the story in Gotham.

Pattinson revealed that his interpretation of the character was heavily influenced by the 1989 DC Comics issue “Batman: Shaman” by Dennis O’Neil and Ed Hannigan. He noted that he sought to explore the “metaphysical aspects” of the bat symbol, moving beyond simple logic to explore a deeper, more abstract connection to the persona.

Director Matt Reeves has attributed the lengthy development period to a desire to ensure the script reaches its best possible state before filming begins. Production for the sequel is expected to commence within the coming months.
