Robert Prosinečki a top candidate for Bulgaria national team coach

Croatian football expert Robert Prosinečki is a leading candidate to become the head coach of the Bulgarian national football team. Following a series of poor results in the UEFA Nations League, including losses to Luxembourg and Iceland, the Bulgarian Football Union dismissed manager Aleksandar Dimitrov.

Prosinečki reportedly traveled to Sofia to hold discussions with Bulgarian Football Union President Georgi Ivanov. While a final agreement has not yet been officially confirmed, he is considered a top contender. If appointed, this would mark the fifth national team Prosinečki has managed, following previous roles with Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Kyrgyzstan.

Atanas Ribarski is currently serving as the interim manager and is expected to lead the team through the remainder of the Nations League cycle in November. The Bulgarian Football Union aims to have a permanent appointment in place by the beginning of 2027 to prepare for the Euro 2028 qualifying campaign. Other candidates mentioned in discussions include Silvinho, Aleksandar Janković, and Eduard Jordanescu.
