Robert Saleh defends Carnell Tate amid preseason struggles

Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh expressed continued confidence in rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate despite the player recording zero catches on five targets during the preseason. Saleh indicated that the lack of production is largely due to the team not yet scheming plays specifically to get Tate the ball.

Tate, selected No. 4 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, has faced challenges including a recent practice injury that caused stiffness, though the team ruled out a concussion. Despite the preseason statistics, Saleh praised Tate’s physicality in the run game and his performance during offseason programs, where he demonstrated chemistry with quarterback Cam Ward through multiple touchdown catches in training camp.

Prior to joining the Titans, Tate played three seasons at Ohio State, recording 121 receptions for 1,872 yards and 14 touchdowns.
