Born in Luxembourg in 1886, Schuman was a lawyer who served in the German troops during World War I before becoming a French citizen. His life was marked by opposition to Nazism, which led to his internment in Germany in 1941. After escaping, he joined the French Resistance and helped found the Christian Democratic party, the Mouvement Républicain Populaire (MRP).

Schuman’s legacy is characterized by his ability to bridge cultures, as he was fluent in French, German, and Luxembourgish. His political work was deeply rooted in his Christian faith, aiming to build a better world through high values and the pursuit of European unity.
