Robert Teal sentenced to 21 months for Knox Mountain arson and assault
Robert Teal, 49, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for arson and assault following a series of incidents at Knox Mountain Park in Kelowna on October 24, 2025. Teal pleaded guilty to arson causing property damage and simple assault.
During the incident, Teal reportedly set multiple fires on the hillside and attempted to accelerate the flames by adding branches and vegetation. When confronted by bylaw officers, Teal aimed an unloaded slingshot at one of them, causing significant distress.
In sentencing, Judge Andrew Tam cited Teal’s declining mental health and substance use disorder as mitigating factors. The court noted that Teal had been experiencing paranoid delusions and suicidal ideation prior to the events. Following his prison term, Teal is required to serve three years of probation.
