Robert Wilson struck off register after rape and sexual assault convictions

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) has removed Robert Wilson from its professional register following his convictions for rape and sexual assault. Wilson, a former social care worker, was found guilty at the Edinburgh High Court of raping a woman in Tranent between January and March 2013, and sexually assaulting Yvonne Carnie, 68, at The Abbey care home in North Berwick between August 2022 and February 2023.

Ms. Carnie, who suffered from progressive supranuclear palsy, died in 2025 before the legal proceedings concluded. The SSSC stated that Wilson’s actions constituted an “abuse of trust” and demonstrated a “serious disregard for the law and the SSSC Codes of Practice,” noting that his behavior was fundamentally incompatible with the standards expected of those entrusted to safeguard vulnerable people.

Wilson was sentenced to eight years in prison for the offenses. In a statement released via a law firm, Ms. Carnie’s family expressed that while the verdict provides some closure, it cannot undo the suffering she endured. They also highlighted a sense of anger regarding a perceived systemic failure to protect her during her care.
