Roberta Petrelluzzi condemns sensationalist TV coverage of the Garlasco murder case

Veteran Rai 3 journalist Roberta Petrelluzzi, host of the long‑running courtroom programme Un giorno in pretura, criticised the media’s “shameful” and excessive focus on the Garlasco murder case. She said crime stories are cheap audience draws that “cost little while we cost much”, and lamented that her own programme has never dedic­ated a full episode to the case despite its notoriety. Petrelluzzi added she would only cover Garlasco if a new trial were to take place, echoing Justice Minister Carlo Nordio’s view that the investigations should not be reopened without fresh evidence.

Petrelluzzi also highlighted the recent revival of Un giorno in pretura, which returned to prime‑time on Rai 3 and RaiPlay on 8 July with six new episodes. She praised the show’s rigorous research and narrative standards, contrasting them with the sensationalism she sees dominating televised crime reporting.
