Roberta Torre premieres ‘Scarpe rotte’ at Venice Film Festival

Director Roberta Torre has premiered her new feature film, ‘Scarpe rotte’, as the opening work for the Notti Veneziane segment of the 26th Giornate degli Autori during the Venice International Film Festival.

Inspired by Natalia Ginzburg’s short story of the same name, the film is set in Italy during the final years of World War II. It follows Clara, played by Barbara Ronchi, as she navigates personal tragedy and political upheaval. The narrative centers on the symbolic meaning of worn-out footwear as a representation of human experience and history.

The film utilizes an experimental style, incorporating found footage and black-and-white projections to blend reconstructed scenes with archival elements. While noted for its suggestive atmosphere and historical depth, some critiques suggest the production leans heavily toward a theatrical staging.
