Roberto Arzú faces scrutiny over leaked audios involving criminal figure

Guatemalan politician Roberto Arzú García-Granados is facing scrutiny following the release of audio recordings involving Francisco Edgar ‘Paco’ Domínguez Higueros, a figure linked to the criminal group ‘Los Caradura’. Arzú, a former presidential candidate and current secretary of political formation for the Cabal party, confirmed the authenticity of one of the leaked conversations.

In the recording, Domínguez reportedly demands a multimillion-dollar debt from Arzú, while the politician makes reference to a contract involving a payment through a ‘channel’. Arzú has denied any involvement in illicit operations, stating that the discussions pertained to legitimate business in the television advertising sector. He maintained that he was unaware of the criminal allegations against Domínguez during their commercial relationship.
